  • US Oncology, a provider of cancer care services, acquired NexCura, a provider of online patient and caregiver education content focused on cancer, and Cure Media Group, a publisher of a cancer focused magazine and website

  • Hyland Software, a provider of enterprise content management software owned by Thoma Bravo, acquired eWebHealth, a provider of hosted medical records workflow solutions

  • The Advisory Board Company, a provider of best practices research and software tools for the healthcare industry, acquired Concuity, the revenue cycle management software and services division of Trintech Group PLC, for $34.5M
Healthcare IT Financing
  • Awarepoint, a provider of real-time location systems for remote monitoring of critical resources in hospitals, raised $10M from Jafco Ventures, Cardinal Partners and Venrock

  • After initially not repealing or delaying the 21% Medicare physician pay cuts, the US Senate voted last Tuesday to postpone the reimbursement cuts until April 1st

  • Joining the likes of Allscripts, athenahealth, ChartLogic, e-MDs, eClinicalWorks, GE Healthcare, Ingenix, Medsphere Systems, NextGen, Noteworthy Medical, Practice Fusion and SourceMedical,  Sage Group announced a meaningful use guarantee for its electronic health record product suite to assure physicians its product will qualify for government incentives

  • AMICAS, the radiology information systems provider, agreed to be acquired by Merge Healthcare for $248M; in December, AMICAS originally agreed to be acquired by the private equity firm Thoma Bravo for $217M

  • Last week the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) hosted the annual 2010 HIMSS Conference in Atlanta, Georgia; more than 27,500 healthcare and technology industry experts attended which outpaced 2009 attendance by 7%

  • According to Surescripts, approximately 85% of community pharmacies have prescription routing capabilities and the number of providers routing prescriptions electronically grew to 156,000 in 2009 from 74,000 in 2008; similarly, the number of e-prescriptions grew to 191M from 68M over the same period
