  • Intuit, a provider of financial and business management software, acquired Medfusion, a provider of patient-provider communication solutions for physician practices, for $91M

  • SAP acquired Sybase, a provider of enterprise and mobile software for the financial services, government and healthcare industries, for $5.8B which represents a 44% premium to the trailing three month average stock price

  • Mediware Information Systems, a provider of clinical management and performance management information software systems, acquired Knowledge-Forge, a provider of e-learning and compliance management solutions for the healthcare industry

  • Tribridge, a provider of business IT applications and IT consulting services, acquired Mercatus Group, a provider of healthcare IT consulting services
Healthcare IT Financing
  • CardioDx, a provider of diagnostic tools for cardiovascular disease, raised $5M from GE Healthcare

  • MDdatacor, a provider of healthcare quality management solutions for insurers and providers, raised $2.6M from DIANON Systems and private investors

  • Medquist, a medical transcription provider, reported first quarter 2010 revenue declined 6.3% to $74M which the company cites as a result of lower pricing

  • The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services awarded $9M to four state Medicaid programs to aid them in implementing the EHR incentive program; to date, CMS has awarded $67M in grants to 39 states, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands

  • Large multi-specialty medical groups improved quality of care by 5 – 15% and lowered annual per patient costs by 3.6% compared to smaller physician group practices; if all physicians achieved similar results, the Medicare program could save $15B annually (Health Affairs)

  • 2010 healthcare costs for a typical American family of four rose to $18,074, an increase of $1,303 compared to 2009; this total dollar rise represents the highest amount recorded since the inception of the study (Milliman, Inc.)
